Pastor's Greeting

Message from the Pastor:

Why Lent?

The season of Lent comprises the 40 days before Easter.  (The Sundays in the Lenten season are not counted in those 40 days, because each Sunday of the year is to remind us of Easter Sunday.)  Recalling Jesus’ 40 days in the wilderness, fasting and being tempted by Satan, during Lent we concentrate our attention on the sobering truth of our sins and Jesus’ suffering and death for our salvation.  What the cross means to Christianity is what the message of Lent means to our Christian faith.  This is the essence of our faith, “of first importance,” as St. Paul described it:

Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.  For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:1-4).”

Without the message of Lent, “you have believed in vain!”  Please make room in your schedule to join us for Lenten worship and this vital message.

Ash Wednesday

February 17th, Worship at 3:45 and 6:30pm

“Ash” Wednesday begins the season of Lent, recalling the words usually spoken at a funeral, “earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust,” and the words the Lord spoke to Adam after the first sin, “Dust you are and to dust you will return.”  This worship service focuses on repentance and celebrates the grace of God to us in Holy Communion.

Lenten Worship

Wednesdays, February 17th – March 24th

3:45 and 6:30pm

Our Theme for 2010:  We Preach Christ Crucified

Each Wednesday we will be tracing the history of our Lord’s suffering and death with readings from Luke’s Gospel.  Our messages on the six Lenten Wednesdays will be based on epistle texts, focusing our attention on the centrality of the cross in our Christian faith and life.  Pastor Johannes and four area pastors (Pastors Cole, Hoppe, Romberg, and Schoemann) will be leading our worship.

Pastor Johannes  If you have questions about our congregation, or about any of the ministry services we offer, please contact me by calling 920.755.4555 or by sending me an email
